Cubbon Park, Bengaluru
Cubbon Park, often called the “lungs of Bengaluru,” is one of the city’s most iconic green spaces. Spread across nearly 300 acres, this park lies in the heart of the city and offers a serene escape from the fast-paced urban life. With its rich history, lush greenery, and cultural landmarks, Cubbon Park is both a recreational hub and a heritage landmark for Bengaluru.
Historical Background
Cubbon Park was originally created in 1870 by Major General Richard Sankey, the then Chief Engineer of Mysore. The park was initially named Meade’s Park in honor of Sir John Meade, the acting Commissioner of Mysore. Later, it was renamed after Sir Mark Cubbon, the longest-serving British Commissioner of the region, who played a significant role in the development of Bengaluru during colonial rule.
