Located in the northeastern corner of Assam, Dhemaji is a land of serene beauty, lush paddy fields, and flowing rivers.Often called the “Land of Floods”, it lies on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River and serves as the gateway to Arunachal Pradesh.

Geography and Climate

Dhemaji is bordered by Arunachal Pradesh to the north and east, Lakhimpur district to the west, and the Brahmaputra River to the south. The district’s name is derived from the Assamese words “Dhal” (flood) and “Maj” (middle) that reflects its fertile but flood-prone geography.

The region is crisscrossed by rivers like Jiadhal, Gainadi, Moridhal, and Simen, which descend from the Arunachal hills. The terrain is mostly flat and green, covered with fields, wetlands, and patches of forest.

The climate is humid subtropical with hot summers, heavy monsoon rains, and cool, pleasant winters.
