About Pushpagiri Peak
Nestled in the lush embrace of the western ghats, Pushpagiri Trek is one of the premier trekking destinations in Coorg. The trek passes through Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary to the 6th highest peak in Karnataka, called Pushpagiri Peak, with an elevation of 5626 feet. It’s the second highest in Coorg after Thadiyandamol.
Pushpagiri, adorned with dense green forest and picturesque valleys, is also the source of the Harangi River that originated from this summit.
Trekking Expedition to Pushpagiri Peak
The total length of the trek to Pushpagiri peak spans approximately 7 km. At the base of the Pushpagiri hills, following Heggadamane village, you have to cross the forest checkpoint and begin your trekking. The trail presents a moderate level of trekking, passing through dense forest, rocky terrain, and wet grasslands. Once you reach the top , a small temple dedicated to Kumara Swamy will shower you with blessings, adding a spiritual touch to the trekking experience.
Extended Adventure: Kumara Parvatha and Girigadde
Many visitors opt to return the same day after visiting Pushpagiri Peak, while others continue their trek to Kumara Parvatha, which lies further ahead. After crossing Pushpagiri, the trail leads to a camping spot known as Girigadde falls It falls at a distance of 7 km from Pushpagiri. It has the option of basic private accommodation. After crossing the Girigadde, it will take around 3–4 hours to reach the Kukke, which is 7 km from the Girigadde.
Tips for Trekkers
The peak often experiences rainfall, so carrying a raincoat is advisable. Additionally, the area is known for leeches, so trekkers are advised to carry salt and necessary powders to mitigate leech encounters.
During the monsoon season, it’s good to carry a raincoat. You will often encounter leeches because the area is known for them.
Entry Fee and Camping
An entry fee of Rs. 75 is applicable at the Check Post, with additional fees for camping.
