History and Architecture

Ghantai temple dates back to 995 CE and was constructed by the magnificent Chandela kings. The temple is dedicated to Rishabhanatha, revered as Adinatha in Jain tradition. The name of the temple is derived from the exquisite chain and bell motifs that are carved onto its towering pillars. It showcases the artistic finesse of the craftsmen.
The Archaeological Survey of India has recognized it as a monument of national importance and maintains it. The Architecture of the temple draws parallel to the Parshvanath temple, but it surpasses its counterpart in size The grand entrance leads to Mandapa. Its scales leave visitors in awe and transport them back to a time when the temple was in its former glory.
Oblong patterns are engraved on the door wall with an eight-armed figure of Yakshi Chakreswari seated atop a Garuda. Mahavira’s pregnant mother’s dream has been carved into six auspicious symbols. It adds a touch of spirituality to the architectural masterpiece.
