History of Gowalkot Fort
Gowalkot Fort’s story begins with its construction by King Chougle, setting the stage for centuries of conquests and battles. Initially known as Govindgad after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s conquest, the fort saw a series of rulers, including the Siddis and the British, leaving behind a tapestry of historical significance.
Architecture
Despite being in a ruined state, the fort retains its charm with remnants of old buildings and canons. The fort is spread over an area of 2 acres and placed strategically, surrounded by the Vashishti River on three sides and a protective trench on the fourth.
Once you reach the top, there is a temple dedicated to Goddess Redjai atop the hill. It offers visitors a captivating experience.
