The Dilawar Khan Mosque is an iconic historical structure that was constructed in the year 1405 AD by Dilwar Khan Ghori.  It was the earliest iconic structure in the Mandu region, which was once the capital of the Malwa Sultanate.

Dilwar Khan was a Pashtun governor of the Malwa province in central India who later became the Sultan of the Malwa Sultanate.  In this article, we will delve into the details of Dilwar Khan Mosque

The mosque was constructed during the rule of Hoshang Shah, the Malwa Sultanate’s founder. It was built using stones from deconstructed temples, which were common practices at the time.

Architecture of Dilawar Khan Mosque

The mosque has a central entrance and corridors on three sides that lead to a prayer room.  The design of the mosque is such that it has a big courtyard in the middle that is in turn surrounded by a colonnade. The bold influence of Hindu art forms in the ceilings and columns of the prayer hall can be easily noticeable.

Despite being in ruins, the mosque still has remarkable wall paintings that have survived the test of time. It showcases a glimpse into the artistic brilliance of the time.
