About Lungleng Lal In,
Lungleng Lal In, located in Lungleng village of Aizawl district, is a century-old heritage home that once belonged to the renowned Mizo Chief Khamliana Sailo. Surrounded by expansive green glades perfect for picnics, this historic site blends cultural legacy with natural beauty.
Historical and Cultural Significance
Chief Khamliana Sailo was more than just a respected leader—he was a trailblazer. As the first literate Mizo chief, he became a bridge between his people and the outside world. He famously penned a letter to the British Missionaries and, on 16 June 1897, wrote directly to Queen Victoria, congratulating her on her 60 years of reign. His diplomatic efforts helped strengthen relations between the British and the Mizos, earning him the prestigious ‘Kaiser-i-Hind’ Medal in 1923 from the Colonial British Government. The house stands today not just as a residence, but as a monument to his forward-thinking leadership and historical contributions.
