About Deo Tal
Deo Tal, or Lake of the Gods, is a beautiful lake located near Mana Pass. The lake is the origin of the mythical river Saraswati, which flows underground for a major portion. It joins the river Alaknanda at Keshav Prayag, near Mana village, Badrinath.
Falling on the ancient trade route , the road journey from Mana village toward Deo Lake is dangerous but beautiful. It passes through rugged terrain that is found in Spiti and culminates at Mana Pass, which is 53 km away. Enroute, numerous lakes like Rajas Tal Nag Tal and Deo Tal remain frozen for a major portion of the year.
How to reach
The major problem that visitors face while traveling toward Deo Tal is the inner line permit. Lying close to India, China, you should have an inner line permit from the sub-district magistrate and a no-objection certificate from ITBP and the Indian Army.
If you are lucky and have a permit, move to Joshimath and take a rest for a day. The next day, we continued on National Highway 7 and reached Mana village. After the village, the road condition is not good, and you should have a car with good ground clearance.
