About Trisul
Mount Trisul is a challenging mountain situated in the Kumaon region of the state of Uttarakhand in India. It belongs to the Himalayan mountain range and is famous for its picturesque scenery and difficult hike. The name “Trisul” comes from the Hindi word for “trident,” which is the number of peaks that make up its summit ridge, and this resembles the trident weapon of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva.
Situated in the Western Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Mount Trisul is a group of three mountains with a prominent peak, Trishul 1, reaching a height of 7120 m. The word “Trisul” comes from the Hindi word Trishul, which is a trident and weapon of Shiva.
It forms the boundary of the Unesco World Heritage Site Nanda Devi Sanctuary from the south-west. It lies south-west of Nanda Devi. A great massif runs from Trishul 1 and ends at Trishul 3, which lies south of Trishul 1. So the massif runs from north to south.
first successful climb of Trisul1 happened in 1907 by the British expedition led by T.G. Longstaff. The route they choose is from Rishi Ganga Valley, which lies north of the mountain
Trisul 2 and 3 were climbed in 1960 by the Yugoslav team JAHO from the Bidalgwar glacier.
