About Shanidev temple
Shanidev temple in the natural surroundings of natural springs and waterfalls is located in a village named Kharsali in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Situated close to a religious site, Yamountri, which is 6 km away, the Shani dev temple is one of the sightseeing locations at Kharsali or Khushimath. Housing one of the oldest Shani dev temples, the temple is at an elevation of 2675 m and receives heavy snowfall, which makes it inaccessible during winters.
Architecture of Shanidev temple
The temple was designed in an old architectural style that was made up of mortar, stones, and wood. Despite being made of such materials the temple has withstood natural calamities since times.
Its is believed the temple was built by Pandavas. Inside Garbhgriha of the temple, the bronze idols of Lord Shani Dev is kept here along with the Chaaya, the Sangya, and Nag Devta.
Urns Beliefs
Two urns kept inside the temple that are related to special beliefs. Its believed that touching them brings a loft of misfortune to oneself or their family. On Purnima and Amawasya, these urns is believed to change position of themselves.
Winter Seat of Goddess Yamuna
At the onset of winter, the idol of Goddess Yamuyna is brought to the temple every year. It happens on the occasion of Bhai Dooja or Yam Dwitiya, which is two days after Diwali
