Renowned for its natural beauty, Kolli Hills, also known as Kollimalai, is a picturesque mountain range located in the Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu, India. Its a popular destination for nature lovers, adventure enthusiasts, and pilgrims.
The hill is a part of the eastern ghats and stands at an elevation of about 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) above sea level. The region covers an area of approximately 280 square kilometres.
Mythology and Folklore
Kolli Hills are mentioned in local legends. It is believed that the hills have been guarded by the deity Kolli Pavai, a benevolent spirit who protected the hills from invaders.
Arapaleeswarar Temple
One of the most significant landmarks in Kolli Hills is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It’s believed to have been built during the Sangam era and revered as a pilgrimage site.
Agaya Gangai Waterfalls
Falling from a height of around 300 feet, the waterfall is a major attraction in Kolli Hills. The trek to the waterfall takes you through a dense forest.
Botanical and Herbal Richness
Kolli Hills is known for its rich biodiversity, particularly medicinal plants and herbs. It is often referred to as the “Herbal Hills” due to its traditional use in Siddha medicine.

Although the weather remains pleasant throughout the year, the best time to visit is between November and March after the monsoon subsides.

The road to Koli Hills is famous for its 70 hairpin bends. It winds through stunning landscapes that provide adventurous and thirling experiences.
