About Tribal museum
The tribal museum in Araku Valley is a must-visit place for anyone keen on learning about tribal lifestyles, art, and heritage. The museum is easily accessible and situated 2 km from the Araku bus station. A cultural landmark It provides a window into the rich and diverse traditions of the tribal communities residing in the Eastern Ghats.
The museum was built in 1996 to preserve and showcase the tribal heritage of the region. It is currently operated by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC).
Tribal museum characteristics
The tribal museum is designed in such a way that it gives visitors glimpses into tribal life. The use of mud and iron in traditional kitchens reflects the importance of simple things. Mayur and Dhimsa dances are highlighted as major dances of the tribal community.
At the entrance of the museum, a series of 10 photographs shows a tribal wedding ceremony. The use of clay depicts daily tribal activities, and artefacts like jewellery, hunting tools, and utensils are showcased.
Various workshops and exhibitions are organised from time to time to promote tribal art and culture.
