About Orang National Park
Orang National Park, also known as the “Mini Kaziranga,” is a pristine wildlife sanctuary located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River in Assam. Spanning over 78.81 square kilometers, the park is famous for its population of the one-horned rhinoceros, Asiatic elephants, and other rare wildlife. Unlike larger reserves, Orang offers a more intimate and less crowded experience, making it a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, and wildlife photographers.

The landscape of Orang National Park is a beautiful blend of grasslands, wetlands, and forests, creating a perfect habitat for diverse species. The alluvial floodplains along the Brahmaputra nourish the grasslands, which support herbivores like deer, rhinos, and elephants. Water bodies such as streams, ponds, and beels (oxbow lakes) attract migratory birds and sustain aquatic life. The dense forests provide shelter for predators like leopards and jungle cats. Apart from rhinos, it is home to wild elephants, hog deer, barking deer, and wild boar. Visitors can explore Orang National Park through jeep safaris, which offer a chance to spot wildlife up close while enjoying the raw beauty of the Brahmaputra floodplains. The park is quieter compared to Kaziranga and Manas, allowing tourists to immerse themselves in the sounds of nature. Winter and early spring are the best times to visit, when migratory birds flock to the park and the climate is pleasant for safaris.

By Air: The nearest airport is Tezpur Airport (approximately 68 km away). Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, about 150 km from the park, is a more convenient option with better connectivity.
By Rail: The nearest railway station is Saloni Railway Station, around 30 km from the park. Tezpur Railway Station is another nearby option.
By Road: Orang is well-connected by roadways, with buses and taxis available from Tezpur, Mangaldoi, and Guwahati. The park lies along the Tezpur–Guwahati route, making it accessible for travelers.
