About Murudeshwar’s Shiva Statue
The second-largest Shiva statue globally, following the one in Nepal, Murudueshwar’s majestic Shiva statue is a beautiful place to visit. Situated within a temple complex, with its stunning surroundings and spiritual ambiance, the Shiva statue is an integral part of the Murudeshwar Temple complex.
Standing proudly at 123 feet (37 feet), the statue is crafted by sculptors from Shivamogga., led by Kashinath. Around 50 million rupees is funded by businessman Mr. R.N. Shetty. Meticulous design showcasing intricate details took a span of two years. The statue is strategically positioned to capture direct sunlight, creating a sparkling effect.
Originally adorned with four arms and golden paint, the statue faced the forces of nature, losing an arm to strong winds.
Temple complex
Beside the main statue of Shiva, there are statues of various deities, including depictions of gods and demons. The most notable among these are Geetopadesha, Sun chariot, and the moment Lord Ganesh receives the Atma Linga from Ravana, which adorns the Kanduka hill landscape
