Offering a picturesque view, Karighatta Hill is a majestic hill that stands at an altitude of 2,697 feet in Mysore. Drawing pilgrims, the hill  has a sacred temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. So both nature enthusiasts and pilgrims consider Karighata Karighatta Hill to be a serene abode. The confluence of the Cauvery and Lokapavani rivers near Karighatta Hill adds to the natural charm of the location, providing a serene backdrop for both worship and contemplation. 

Vishnu temple

Inside the temple, there is a black idol of Lord Vishnu that measures over 6 feet. It was installed by the revered sage Brigu. It is believed by the devotees that performing rituals and poojas at this site brings positive transformation to the lives of troubled individuals. 

As visitors ascend the hill, they encounter the unique flora known as Darbe, long and sharp grasses that add to the mystique of the surroundings. According to ancient lore, during the Varaha avatar, Lord Vishnu landed on this hill, and as he shook his body, some of his hair fell and transformed into these sharp Darbe grasses.

During the months of February and March,an annual car festival attracts a large number of devotees to the place. It infuses the hill with festive fervor. 

Timing

Karighatta Hill welcomes visitors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and extends its hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
