Located just 19 km from Mysore, the dam is positioned near Brindavan Garden. The dam has become a favored destination for tourists seeking both engineering marvels and natural beauty.
History
The dam was constructed in 1924 by the visionary Sir M. Vishveshwaraih. Instead of using conventional cement, a blend of limestone and brick powder was used in making the dam. The automatic sluice gates are one of the distinctive feature of the dam.

At the confluence of the Hemavati and Laskhmanathritha rivers, the dam spans an impressive 3 km. The reservoir created by the dam is spread over an area of 130 square kilometers, ranking among the largest in India. From the dam, a stable power supply is provided to the Shivanasamudra project.
