About Kadra Dam
Nestled amidst the lush forests and rolling hills of Uttara Kannada district, Kadra Dam is one of the most scenic attractions near Karwar. Built across the mighty Kali River, the dam was developed primarily to support hydroelectric power generation and forms an important part of Karnataka’s energy infrastructure. Completed in 1997, Kadra Dam is one of the several dams constructed on the Kali River basin, contributing significantly to the region’s power supply.
The dam stands approximately 40.5 meters high and stretches over 2,313 meters in length. Operated by the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), it has an installed generating capacity of 150 MW and produces around 570 million units of electricity annually. Kadra Dam also plays a supporting role in meeting the power requirements of the nearby Kaiga Nuclear Power Station, making it strategically important to the region.
