Kollam

Kollam lies on the Malabar Coast of Kerala, bordered by Thiruvananthapuram in the south and Pathanamthitta in the north. History

Kollam, known historically as Quilon, has been a major trading hub since the Phoenician, Arab, and Chinese eras. It was once part of the Venad Kingdom and later came under the rule of the Travancore dynasty. The Portuguese, Dutch, and British also established trading settlements here. The ancient port of Thangassery played a vital role in spice and cashew trade. Kollam’s long maritime history is reflected in its colonial architecture, old churches, and lighthouses.
