The History of Nanda Devi National Park

The story of Nanda Devi National Park is an interesting one. W.W. Garden was the first person to reach the region, but he reached up to Rishi Ganga only and an expedition to reach Nanda Devi peak failed. Later, in 1936, Tilman and N.E. Odell scaled the Nanda Devi peak, which led to the road of the Nanda Devi sanctuary in 1939. In 1982, the park was given the status of a biosphere reserve to protect it from the disturbance of trekkers. In 1988, the park was given the status of a Unesco world heritage site.
