History and Mythology of Mahasu Temple

According to mythology, once upon a time, there lived a dreadful demon who consumed one man daily from a nearby village.

Frustrated by all this, Brahmin Mandranath decided to take some steps.

He started worshipping Shiva. Happy with the penance of the Mandrath, Shiva requested one of his female devotees, Deolari Devi, to help the man.

Deolari Devi, after hearing a story from Mandrath, sent her four sons to help out. She also directed Mandrath to continue plowing the fields he had left.

In the process, Mandrath was plowing the fields. He found four shivilings that were later named Mahasu, Pavasi, Vasik, and Chalda.

The four sons of Delori Devi, who were on a mission to find out the demon, later surrounded him. The battle continued for several days, and the demon was killed.

When the news of the killing spread, village people rejoiced. They started worshipping Shiva as Mahasu ever after.
