About Glow Lake Trek
The Glow Lake Trek is one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most scenic yet lesser-explored adventures, located in the Lohit district near Kibithu and Walong. Perched at an altitude of about 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) within the Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary, Glow Lake offers pristine alpine beauty with it crystal-clear waters reflecting surrounding forests and snow-capped peaks.
The trek is a rewarding journey for those seeking solitude, biodiversity, and a touch of mystery in the Eastern Himalayas.
Unique Experiences
The trek winds through thick subtropical forests teeming with orchids, ferns, and towering evergreen trees, with the distant calls of hornbills echoing through the valleys. As you approach the lake, the landscape changes is moss-covered boulders, fresh mountain streams, and crisp alpine air heighten the sense of arriving somewhere sacred.
Glow Lake itself shimmers under sunlight, and during dawn or dusk, its surface glows with soft hues of gold and pink. The area is also home to rare species like the clouded leopard and Mishmi takin, making it a naturalist’s paradise. Local folklore speaks of the lake being a spirit’s mirror, watched over by mountain deities.
How to Reach
The trek starts from Kampani village, about 7 km from Wakro in the Lohit district. Wakro is connected by road to Tinsukia in Assam via the Parshuram Kund route. The trail to Glow Lake is roughly 8–10 km and can be completed in about 4–5 hours, depending on pace.
Since the path crosses forest streams and narrow ridges, it is best undertaken with a local guide from the Mishmi tribe, who know both the terrain and its cultural significance. The ideal season for trekking is October to April, when the weather is stable and the forest trails are lush but navigable.
