Overview and History
Maharani Lakshmi Bai Park is a remarkable memorial that inspires the legacy of courageous freedom fighters. The iconic park is in the heart of the Phool Bagh area of Gwalior and is situated at a distance of 1.5 km from Gwalior Junction and 3 km from the iconic Gwalior Fort.
A revered symbol against the oppressive British Raj, Maharani Lakshmi Bai Park plays a pivotal role against British rule. He fought relentlessly for the freedom of Jhansi, a princely state until she met her demise on June 18, 1858 CE. For her indomitable spirit and to pay homage to the valiant Rani Lakshmi Bai Park.
In 1920 AD, the ruler of Gwalior erected a magnificent eight-meter-tall statue of Rani Lakshmi Bai, which portrays Rani on horseback, clutching a sword, with a child seated behind her. A symbol of heroic spirit for the cause of Indian independence is a great reminder for today’s generation.
The Annual Fair
In Gwalior, every year on June 18th, to honor the memory of Rani Lakshmi Bai, a vibrant fair is organized. Visitors from far and wide celebrate the fair with traditional music, local handicrafts, dance performances, and cuisine. It’s a celebration of her legacy and contribution to Rani Lakshmi Bai.
Park Timings
The park is open to visitors from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. So be sure to pay a visit and have plenty of time to reflect on the incredible journey of Rani Lakshmi bai and her contribution to India’s struggle for Independence.
