History

Adding a touch of romance, Guru Shikhar Peak is associated with King Prithviraj Chauhan. At Guru Shikhar, he meets his beloved princess, hailing from Prahladpur (Known as Palanpur).  This historical connection adds a touch of romance to the already enchanting allure of Guru Shikar.

One of the main attractions for visitors, Dattatreya Temple, stands proudly at the peak. It was dedicated to Lord Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, Dattatreya is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The footprints of Lord Dattatreya are imprinted in the rocky caves and are considered a testament to the lord’s presence. Thousands of devotees visit to pay their respects and offer prayers. As an ancient charm to the religious ambiance, there is a magnificent bell made of wooden frames hanging at the temple’s entrance. The bell was installed in the year 1411 AD.

Another notable temple that is located near Guru Shikahr is the Raghunath temple. It’s dedicated to Swami Ramaath, a renowned sage from bygone times. Mata Anasuya, the mother of Lord Dattatreya, has a famous shrine that is a focal point for devotees to express their devotion and seek blessings.

To explore the wonder of the night sky, there is the Mount Abu observatory, which is situated close to Guru Shikar. The observatory has a 1.2-meter infrared telescope that allows astronomers and researchers to explore the sky. It helps in astronomical experiments and contributes to the advancement of scientific research and understanding. 

How to Reach Guru Shikhar Peak

Along the scenic Dilwara-Achalgarh road, you can reach the Guru Shikar by opting for a taxi or two-wheeler drive. Once you reach the mountain base, you must ascend approximately 300 well-maintained steps to reach the summit. It can be comfortably accomplished by most people. 

Timings

Guru Shikhar welcomes visitors from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., allowing ample time to immerse oneself in its splendor and create cherished memories.
