About Sri Vidyashankara Temple
A revered pilgrimage site, Sri Vidyashankara Temple is situated in Sringeri. It was constructed in the 14th century with the support of Vijayanagar rulers. The temple was built in memory of Guru Vidyashankara and boasts ruby images of Venugopala and Srinivasa, along with a Nandi crafted from a large pearl.
Within the temple, there are various inscriptions that document the significant contribution made by the Vijayanagara ruler to its construction.
A unique fusion of Hoysala and Dravidian architectural styles is observed, showcasing intricate details and craftsmanship. Crafted with golden-colored stone, the temple is set on a low platform within a spacious paved area.
Rasikambhas: Zodiac Pillars
Inside the temple, it is distinguished by 12 zodiac pillars known as Rasikambhas. In the early morning, when the sun ray falls, it illuminates a different one each during the solar month. Each pillar is adorned with artistic designs, showcasing the artistic prowess of the craftsmen.

The temple is open to the public from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
