Mythology
According to the legend, Daksha performed yagna at this sacred site. There is an ancient temple dedicated to Swayambhu Dakshahara Someshwara.
History
The temple is believed to have a history spanning over 1000 years. According to the inscriptions, in the 14th century, Vijayanagara King Harihara Maharaya recognized this mutt, conferred titles to the Swamiji, and granted lands to the mutt.
