One of the best places to visit in Jodhpur is the Sardar Government Museum, a government museum that is located in the middle of the beautiful Umaid Public Garden on High Court Road. The fascinating museum has galleries and attractions and is a must-visit destination for culture and history enthusiasts alike.

History

The Sardar Government Museum was established in 1909 and opened to the public on March 17, 1936. Paying homage to the legacy of Maharaja Sardar Singh, it was built under the guidance of Edwardian architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester. The museum holds a rich history during the time period of Maharaja Umaid Singh.

A mesmerizing display of Miniature paintings, local crafts, and textiles shows glimpses of a bygone era. Historic items tell the story of the rich heritage of Rajasthan. Images of Jain Tirthankars, the original house of the rules, are a treat for art enthusiasts. One of the main highlights of the Sardar government museum is the military section, which has a remarkable collection of wooden and brass models of early aircraft and battleships. Visitors travel back in time and marvel at the advancements in military technology.

To capture a special place in the hearts of children, the Sardar government museum has stuffed animals, desert birds, and seabirds, each ornamented with a thorn bush.
