Mythology
Legend has it that a Gowda Saraswat Brahmin family, having settled in Karkala, brought the idol from Goa and built the temple. However, when the rulers of Mangalore attacked the temple, it was destroyed, and the idol went missing. In a dream, devotees were directed to return to their place, where they would receive an idol from a saint. This prophecy came true when a Brahmin stranger presented them with an idol of Srinivasa from Tirupati. The deity is known as Tirupati Chappara Srinivasa, and the rituals in this temple closely mirror those in Tirupati.
