The place is believed to be a landing point for Vasco da Gama while traveling to Kappad Beach. Historically, St. Mary’s Island has held significant importance in the exploration of sea routes to India.
Geography of St. Mary’s Islands
St. Mary Island consists of four individual islands- South Island, North Island, Coconut Island, and Daryabahadurgarh Island. The island boasts two beautiful beaches where you can enjoy a sunset view. The island’s unique landscape is made of crystallized basalt rock that formed as a result of the separation of Madagascar from India.
How to Reach
The journey to the island itself is a blend of natural beauty, geological wonder, and a touch of historical exploration. St. Mary Island is inhabited and accessible by a 30 minute boat ride from Malpe Beach, which is approximately 4 miles away.
