Legend has it that Swami Samarth initially manifested in the Kardali forests near Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh. His spiritual journey led him to different destinations until he finally arrived at Akkalkot in 1856, responding to an invitation from Chintopant Tol. He spent about 22 years in Akkalkot, leaving behind a legacy that transcends generations. Even after his physical departure in 1878, his divine presence remains palpable, particularly at the holy Samadhi located in the house of his disciple Cholappa. The main shrine, called Smadhi Mandir, is built where Swami left his body and departed from the world. The temple reflects the saint’s life of renunciation. Inside the sanctum, there is a paduka (footwear) of Swami Samarth as the central idol.
