Mawsmai Cave, located near Cherrapunji (Sohra) in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills, is one of the most popular natural attractions in the state. Formed from limestone deposits, the cave showcases awe-inspiring stalactites and stalagmites that have taken thousands of years to form.
Unlike other caves in Meghalaya that stretch for several kilometers, Mawsmai Cave is relatively short and easy to explore, making it ideal for first-time cavers and families.

How to Reach
By Road: Mawsmai Cave is about 6 km from Cherrapunji town, and local taxis or shared vehicles are easily available. From Shillong, it is roughly 58 km (2 hours by road) via NH206.
By Air: The nearest airport is Shillong Airport (Umroi), around 80 km away, while Guwahati Airport (150 km) is the nearest major airport with wider connectivity.
By Rail: The closest railway station is Guwahati Railway Station, about 150 km away, from where road transport is available to Cherrapunji.
Best time to visit
Best time to visit is October to April, when the weather is pleasant and the cave is less flooded by monsoon rains.
