Guptakashi is a famous town that is located on the way to Kedarnath and Madmaheshwar. Generally, devotees going toward the Kedarnath temple take a rest because it has many options for accommodation. Ukhimath , another famous town, lies on the opposite side of Guptkashi. Routes to Madhmaheshwar, Chopta and Rudranath Passes through Ukhimath.

Chaukhamba peaks look massive and beautiful to the eye. In mythology, Guptakshi is associated with the pandavas. During the Mahabharata, pandavas in exile after fighting the war of Kurukshetra were searching for god Shiva. At Guptkashi, Shiva went to hide from the Pandavas.

There are numerous places of worship in Guptkashi. The famous are Arshanrishwari, Vishwanath, and Annnapuran Devi Temple.

Vishwanath temple is situated behind the Manikarna kund. A dip inside the kund is sacred to the devotees. Underground tributaries feed the kund through two spouts, one a cowhead and the other a ganesha head.
