About Kiunkaleshwar temple

Kiunkaleshwar is a famous temple situated in the district of Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.At an elevation of 1814 meters above sea level, the temple is 3 km away from the town.

The Alaknanda River flows through the valley below. From the temple, the view of Trishul, Nanda Devi, Chaukhambha, and Triyug Naryan is beautiful to experience.

According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that the temple was created by Yamraj out of devotion to Shiva. 

Yamraj, while fleeing from Tarakasur, reached the mountain Kinasa. He prayed to Shiva , happy from his Tapayasa Shiva granted him a boon to reside here. Yamraj requested Shiva and Parvati to stay here so he could reside at their feet. At the request of Yamraj, Shiva finally appeared in the form of Kankaleshwar.
