About Vazhachal Falls
Just 5 km upstream from Athirappilly Falls along the Chalakudy River in Thrissur district, Vazhachal Falls is another enchanting waterfall in Kerala. Unlike Athirappilly’s vertical plunge, Vazhachal flows over a sloping rocky terrain, creating a wide, rushing cascade amidst thick forests.
Its calm yet powerful flow, combined with lush green surroundings, makes it a favorite spot for nature lovers and photographers.
Scenic Beauty and Ecosystem
Vazhachal Falls is nestled within the Sholayar ranges of the Western Ghats, an area recognized as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site for its biodiversity.
The riparian forests around the falls are rich in flora and fauna, providing habitats for endangered hornbills, butterflies, and small mammals. The Chalakudy River, dotted with rocks and shallow pools, adds to the charm and serenity of the location.
During the monsoon season, the waterfall is at its most majestic, with roaring waters sweeping across the rocks, while the post-monsoon months provide a safer and more accessible experience for visitors.
