History and Construction

Constructed to host royal functions, Fateh Prakash Palace was commissioned by Maharana Fateh Singh, one of the esteemed rulers of Mewar who ruled from 1885 to 1935. A significant historical landmark, the palace has been meticulously preserved over the years.

Enchanting Halls and Corridors

Fateh Prakash Palace consists of numerous halls and exquisite corridors that add to the overall charm of the palace. In 1909, the foundation stone of Dubar Hall was laid by Lord Minto, the viceroy of India, and was originally named Minto Hall. The walls of the Durbar Hall are adorned with portraits of the former rulers of Udaipur, including the revered Maharana Pratap.

Crystal Gallery

The Crystal is the famous highlight of Fateh Prakash Palace. It houses the largest collection of crystals in the world. There is a fascinating story that is related to the crystals: Once Maharana Sajjan Singh of Udaipur ordered the Osler’s crystal from England. But unfortunately, he passed away before the arrival of the packed boxes, and the crystals in those boxes remained in those boxes for a staggering 110 years. In 1994, the gallery was opened to visitors.

The collection includes a fascinating array of items such as fountains, dresses, dining tables, mirrored table tops, washing bowls, sofa sets with hand rests and frames, a jewel-encrusted carpet, a four-poster bed with rich hangings, and throne-like chairs. Tickets for the gallery can be purchased at the City Palace gates or the Crystal Gallery entrance. The crystal gallery also serves as a venue for royal weddings, festivals, parties, and meetings.
