About Digboi
Digboi, located in the Tinsukia district of Assam, is famously known as the “Oil City of Assam” and is home to Asia’s first oil refinery. Established in the late 19th century, the Digboi Oil Refinery still stands as a working refinery and a proud testimony to India’s industrial heritage. Historical and Cultural Significance
The discovery of oil in Digboi dates back to 1867, when oil was first accidentally found while laying a railway track. By 1901, the refinery was established, making it the oldest operational oil refinery in Asia. The town still preserves remnants of British colonial architecture, golf courses, and heritage clubs that reflect its bygone era. Digboi also houses the Oil Museum, which showcases the history of petroleum exploration in India, and the War Cemetery, a well-maintained memorial for soldiers of World War II.

By Road: Digboi is connected via National Highway 315, with frequent bus and taxi services from Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Guwahati. The road journey passes through scenic tea gardens and river valleys, making it an enjoyable ride.
