About Mysore Railway Museum
Capturing the fascinating journey of the history and evolution of Indian railways, the Mysore Railway Museum is a perfect place to visit in Mysore. Located just 500 meters from the Mysore railway station, the Mysore railway was established in 1979.
A Glimpse into Railway Evolution
From narrow gauge to meter gauge and broad gauge engines, the museum boasts an impressive collection of train engines that traversed India’s varied landscape. It exhibits a comprehensive view of the historical development of railway train models, from steam power carts to electric locomotives.
Among the museum’s treasures is a private train with two coaches once used by the Maharaja of Mysore. Steam engines, including the inaugural one, and signaling accessories from the infancy of Indian Railways add a touch of nostalgia. The Sri Ranga Pavilion showcases the opulent Maharani’s saloon carriage dating back to 1899, offering a glimpse into the royal era. The Pavilion also houses artifacts from the railway’s early days, including telephones and furniture

A captivating display of photographs narrates the story of historical moments on Indian railways. There is a special section of paintings called Chamundi Gallery that beautifully shows the Indian Railways from an artistic perspective.
For a delightful experience, a mini train operated by batteries takes visitors on a joy ride within the museum grounds. The charge for a toy train is Rs 10.
