Mathura known as the birthplace of Lord Krishana is located on the banks of the Yamuna river in Uttar Pradesh. Mathura is situated about 145 kilometers southeast of Delhi and 58 kilometers north of Agra, along the Delhi–Agra National Highway (NH-19). The city lies on the fertile plains of the Yamuna River, surrounded by orchards and villages that resonate with stories from Krishna’s life.

The climate of Mathura is tropical, with hot summers, cool winters, and a festive monsoon season. The best time to visit is from October to March, when the weather is pleasant and major festivals like Holi and Janmashtami are celebrated with grandeur.

Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple

Vishram Ghat

Govardhan Hill

Situated about 22 km from Mathura, Govardhan Hill holds immense mythological importance. According to legends, Lord Krishna lifted the hill to protect villagers from Lord Indra’s wrath. Pilgrims perform “Govardhan Parikrama”, a ritual walk around the hill, which is considered highly auspicious.

Kusum Sarovar
