Bangalore

Bangalore, officially known as Bengaluru is famous as the “Silicon Valley of India”. The dynamic capital of Karnataka and one of India’s most cosmopolitan cities it blends high-tech innovation with lush green spaces, rich heritage, and vibrant culture. The city offers a unique mix of colonial-era architecture, bustling markets, art cafés, and serene lakes, making it an essential stop for both leisure and business travellers.

Geography and Overview

Located in the southern part of the Deccan Plateau, Bangalore sits at an elevation of about 920 meters above sea level, giving it a pleasant climate throughout the year. The city is dotted with numerous parks such as Cubbon Park and Lalbagh Botanical Garden, and several lakes including Ulsoor Lake and Sankey Tank that add to its scenic charm. Bangalore is bordered by Ramanagara and Tumakuru districts and serves as a gateway to other destinations in South India like Mysore, Coorg, and Nandi Hills.

History

Bangalore’s history dates back to 1537 CE, when Kempegowda, a feudal ruler under the Vijayanagara Empire, founded it as a mud fort. Over time, the city saw rule under the Marathas, Mughals, Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan, and the British. It developed rapidly under British rule, becoming an important military cantonment. After India’s independence, Bangalore emerged as a major industrial hub and later transformed into the center of India’s IT revolution during the 1990s, earning global recognition for its tech-driven economy.

Culture and Lifestyle

Bangalore is a melting pot of cultures, languages, and cuisines. Kannada is the official language, but English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu are also widely spoken. The city thrives on its cosmopolitan ethos — where ancient temples coexist with tech parks, and street food vendors share space with world-class restaurants. Bangalore’s nightlife is among the most vibrant in India, with numerous pubs, live music venues, and cultural events such as Bangalore Literature Festival and Karaga Festival adding to its charm.
